Kanya vs Soft Nougat

Image
When I lived in Sierra Leone as a child, we used to eat this snack called Kanya, which was made of peanuts, sugar and Gari (grated cassava) or rice flour. There were no additives or preservatives, just pure organic deliciousness. The only time I've had it in the UK is when someone has given me some. My mum used to always know where to get some.  Last year when my flatmate went to Spain, she brought me this Soft Nougat.  As soon as I tasted it I thought it tasted very similar to Kanya. I finished it in no time. Because she remembered how much I enjoyed it, when she went to Spain again recently, she brought me some more Soft Nougat. It's amazing how both sweets have such different ingredients and yet taste so similar. I love both of them.  Thank you, God, for the Soft Nougat. ❤️  The ingredients of Soft Nougat: "Toasted almond (50%), sugar, glucose-fructose syrup, honey, stabiliser and egg white. "Contains Almond and eggs. May contain traces of other nuts, peanuts, ses...

About Tagging

While I was working at this event, I noticed this man who reminded me of someone I've worked with who I used to enjoy chatting to. I wondered how he was. The next day I received a  mysterious text from someone asking if I had applied to work at this particular company, as someone had told him I had. I told the person I hadn't and asked them to identify who they were as I couldn't see their name.  After giving me some clues I  realised it was the same work colleague I had thought of the night before. We used to be in a WhatsApp group so he obviously still had my number. I told him I had been thinking about him and wondering how he was.  As a Christian, I have the Mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16) which connects us all. I believe when I thought of my colleague, he got "tagged" and he had to find a way to get in contact one way or another. 😊 As a Christian, we have the Mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16) which connects us all. I believe when I thought of my collea...

Oneness with Christ

At the museum I was working at, I noticed these two men who were wearing similar glasses and looked almost identical. "Are you twins?" I said. "Most people think that, but we're not," one said. "Are you brothers?" I said. "No." "How come you look so similar?" "We've known each other since primary school and we've been best friends since then." "That is so sweet," I said. "Nice talking to you." The two friends reminded me of married couples who have been together for so long they look like brother and sister.  They are effectively one person inhabiting two bodies. I believe the moment I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour, I entered into a Divine Marriage with Him. All that I am and have belongs to Jesus and all that Jesus is and has belongs to me. I live in Him and He lives in me and is always with me. As my relationship with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, grows deeper, I become more...

Cat-Sitting

Image
A few weeks ago, my flatmate told me she was planning a week away. I told her while I was happy to look after her cat, Zeus, I have no obligation to look after the stray cat, Loudmouth, that she feeds. She said Loudmouth will be fine. I said he'll probably find someone else to feed him. The reason why I didn't like Loudmouth was because he used to come in through the window and eat Zeus's food and Zeus would just sit there and let him. Because he's a stray, I didn't want him bringing in fleas. My flatmate assured me he won't come in if he's fed. Before my flatmate left yesterday for her holidays, I asked her where she kept Loudmouth's food, in case I have a change of heart. She showed me the cupboard where she kept Loudmouth's wet and dry food. She also said Loudmouth usually comes round at 7am. I laughed and told her Loudmouth has got her well trained. At 6.50 am this morning,  I noticed Loudmouth was already at the back door waiting while Zeus was ...

My Favourite Drink

Image
When I went to get some drink from the cupboard where I store my drinks, I noticed two bottles of Vimto in there. What a wonderful surprise!  Thank you, God, for supplying my favourite drinks through my flatmate. ❤️ "Vimto is a British mixed fruit soft drink containing the juice of grapes, raspberries, blackcurrants, and black carrots flavoured with herbs and spices." Pentecost Sunday

Image
Happy Pentecost Sunday! We celebrate You, Holy Spirit, our Companion, Helper, Teacher and Spirit of Truth!  ❤️ Acts 2:1-4 NKJV [1] When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. [2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. [3] Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. [4] And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Image below created with Chatgpt

Pet Peeve

One of my pet peeves is people who jump the queue. When our bus arrived at the stop, we formed an orderly queue to get on, but this person not only jumped the queue and barged in, he didn't even pay to get on. Bus drivers usually stop fare dodgers, but this driver let this one get away with it. He might have been a cute golden retriever dog, but it's no excuse for him to jump the queue. Owners please train your pets to queue up. We are all British after all and queueing is what we do best. 😆

Graduation

Image
The other day, I worked as a host at this university's graduation ceremonies. The faculties were medicine and science.   Although we were hosting four ceremonies on that day, it was quite an easy day for us as we were in the balcony, where the guests were.  After checking their tickets, we showed them to their seats and relaxed.    When it was my turn to sit inside the theatre, I watched the graduates and post graduates dressed in their gowns and mortar boards as their names were called out with their awards. They walked on stage and were cheered on by their contemporaries and the audience. It got me thinking of how different the academic worldview is to my Christian worldview. The world of academia is based on merit.  If you want a good degree - undergraduate and postgraduate - you have to work really hard for it.  The chancellor reminded them about how their various degrees are going to open many doors of opportunities for them. The Christian worldvi...

Mini-Heatwave

Image
London is having a mini-heatwave. It's 27C, which is boiling hot for me.  I'm hibernating indoors. I pray that it's cool tomorrow at the museum I'm working in tomorrow.  (I don't think they have air-conditioning). I will take my portable fan with me for support. Stay cool, unless you're into this kind of weather. 😎 Photo of my faithful companion, Fanny. ❤️

Clocking In and Clocking Out

The agency I mostly work for notified us they were now going to be using this app to book jobs  We are also required to clock in and out using that app. When I arrived at work, I used the app to clock in.  It was the first time I was using the app with this client.  It was then it occurred to me that in the past when I've worked in a theatre and the event has finished early, the duty manager has released us and still paid us till the end of the shift.  If I finish early and clock out using this app, will I still get paid to the end of the shift? I asked the duty manager, but he wasn't sure.  He told me he would contact the appropriate department to find out.  When I didn't hear from the manager, I decided to email our agency, on behalf of all agency staff working at that company, to ask for their advice.  I noticed the agency had just sent us an email reminder about using the app to clock in and out.  So I responded to that email. The agency said ...

Divine Protection

While I was waiting at this bus stop, a bus arrived. As it was terminating at that stop, this woman and her toddler (possibly aged between two and three years old) got off the bus. When the child walked near the edge of the pavement, she pulled him away and said, "Danger."  When my bus arrived, we all queued up to get on. I heard the woman repeating the word "danger" to her son. I believe because young kids seem to have no concept of danger, the mother was teaching her child that roads can be dangerous and you have to be careful.  Recently I was working at this museum where there were parents with lots of young kids in the play area. At one point, this man approached me and handed me a little board with two long sharp nails sticking out of it. Presumably, the board had come off something. "The kids have been playing with this, you know, and it's dangerous," the man said. "They might hurt themselves." I thanked him for bringing it to my attent...

I Need a Lightweight Jacket

Image
One thing I find extremely tedious is shopping for clothes and I don't like window shopping. I only shop for clothes, shoes, cosmetics and accessories on a need to basis.  I also like going to charity shops as you can find really unusual items in them and the money goes to a good cause. Years ago, I found this reversible coat for £70. Apparently,  I would have paid £200 or more if it was brand new. Recently, I've been thinking that I need a new lightweight jacket for work as the ones I have are no longer suitable. I went to a charity shop near work, but I didn't see anything I liked. The next day, I kept thinking again that I need a new coat.  After I finished work I was thinking of popping into a local clothes shop, but I decided to come home instead. At home, my flatmate told me she has this lightweight jacket she hasn't worn in two years. She thought because I usually wear black to work, I might like it and it's a good brand. She also said she had just washed it....

I'm a Member!

While I was scanning visitors in at this event, the security guard inside the gallery asked me to wait a little while before letting any more visitors in as it was getting too crowded. I then asked the next three visitors if they could wait a little while as the gallery was now too full to let anyone in. One of them said, "Why should I have to wait? I'm a member!  You can't expect me to stand here!" I explained to her that it will only take a few minutes, but she was having none of it. I decided to let the member and her two companions in.  Some battles are not worth fighting. 😆 The art gallery member got me thinking of my own membership of the Body of Christ.  All Christians who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour have been given the right to become children of God.  (John 1: 12) With that membership comes lots of benefits, but you have to know what those benefits are and how to claim them.  That's why it's important to study the Bible to know what...

Et Tu, Brute'

As I see it, British politics is a constant reenactment of William  Shakespeare's play,  "Julius Caesar." "Et tu, Brute'?" "Then falls Caesar." Nuff said! 😊 ---- Relevant Bible verses: "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18 "That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1: 9

Rainbow after the Storm

Image
Today, there was a thunderstorm, but I was indoors, thank God, working at this event. By the time I finished work, the storm was over. Later on the way home, I saw this beautiful rainbow. (See photo below) Reminder to self about the rainbow: Genesis 9:8-17 NKJV [8] Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: [9] “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, [10] and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. [11] Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” [12] And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: [13] I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant...

Why It's Better to Remain Silent

At this museum I was working at, I noticed a visitor carrying a tote bag with the words: "Who do you belong to?" I read the words out loud to her. She said the line was from a book they had both read, meaning the young man she was with. "Who do YOU belong to?" I said. "That's a very philosophical question we've been thinking about," she said.  I didn't say anything further, and walked away. To me, that's not a philosophical question at all. I know who I belong to:  God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. When I finished my shift, I had a quick chat with a colleague. She said she'd noticed that since she got into her 50s, her body no longer operates the way it used to. She said she's going to have to change her diet and cut down on sugar and carbs.  She also said her older brother, in his mid-fifties, recently changed his eating habits and lost loads of weight. I listened silently to what she was saying, but didn't mak...

Because He First Loved Us

Image
One of the greatest revelations I've received from the Bible is this verse: "We love Him because He first loved us." 1 John 4: 19 You mean we are not built to give out unconditional love? No, we can't give what we do not have.  We have to fill ourselves with God's love first before we can love and praise Him. We have to fill ourselves up first with God's love before we can give love to our spouses (if married),  children (if we have any), family, loved ones, work colleagues, pets, neighbours, nation, humanity at large, and the world around us.  Some people get burnt out because they keep giving to others, their career, etc and don't know how to fill themselves up. My flatmate's cat, Zeus, is a master at giving love after he's been filled up. When he needs filling up, he comes to us for cuddles and food. When he's ready, he will come and give love in his own cat way, sometimes, by simply keeping you company. Once he's given you enough attent...

Love is Forever

Image
I love taking photos of trees, which I have been sharing on a Facebook group for fellow lovers of trees. After taking another photo, I went to share it on that group, but there was a notice stating that the group had been paused and not allowing anyone to post or leave comments. We could still browse photos. On further investigation, I discovered that the admins of the group were leaving. Members were invited to apply for the vacant admin roles within a specific time frame or the group will be paused and deleted. By the time I saw that post, the deadline had already passed, not that I was interested in the admin role. I decided to create a folder to save my trees posts, as I didn't want to lose them. That Facebook group represents this world, where everything is temporal. You can't put your trust in that which is here today and gone tomorrow.   The folder I have created to store my posts about trees  represents Heaven where love is constant and eternal. I always have acce...

Historical Roles

I have to say some of the supporting artists/extra TV and film roles I've had were hard work;  you are on your feet all day and repeating the same action over and over again. Some roles were very easy and fun like playing a passenger on a tube train. All I had to do was travel on the train, get off and repeat. Speaking of trains, the other day I was working on this old train from the 1930s on a special service running on this particular tube line from west to north-east London. My role was to make sure passengers were in the right carriage and then travel in the carriage with them ensuring there was no eating or drinking in the carriage. As the passengers were well behaved, I spent most of the hour engaging with passengers and listening to the expert volunteers sharing the history of that tube line. The interior of the tube was like being on a historical film set with "props" from the 1970s. I was shocked to see cigarette adverts. Then again, in the good old days, people ...

On Being a Sponge

Image
My spirit is like a sponge that is constantly absorbing God's Spirit.  When I meditate on the Word, my mind is like a sponge that is constantly absorbing the Truth of God, which I get to experience in my every day life. When I am still, I am  a sponge constantly absorbing all that God is. I am a sponge constantly absorbing God’s infinite love. ❤️ ---- Relevant Bible verses: "So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord." Deuteronomy 8: 3 "The Lord is my Shepherd,  I shall not want...You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever." Psalm 23: 1, 5-6 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in ...

Cosplay

Image
As I see it, every job is an opportunity to cosplay. While I was welcoming visitors and scanning their passes at this exhibition, one visitor approached me.  "In the good old days, you weren't allowed to take photos of paintings," he said. "When did they change the rules?" "This is actually the first time I'm working at this art gallery," I said. "Really? You don't look like someone new!" "Do I look like I know what I'm doing?" I said. "Thank you very much!" The man laughed and wished me well. Another visitor chatted to me about the artists and paintings. I had no idea what he was on about, but I must have looked like I did. He even said if I'm ever in Chicago (USA), I should visit their gallery where I will be able to see a similar collection. I reckon all those years of playing different background roles on set have come in very handy. It's interesting that my first ever role as a supporting artist/e...

Jesus is Real

Reminder to self: You don't have to have a traumatic near death experience to experience God/Jesus. The Bible teaches: “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions." Joel 2: 28 Jesus is perfectly capable of revealing Himself in your dreams, as visions or even manifest right where you are. I have seen Jesus as visions and even felt His Hand on my head. Thank you, Lord, for revealing Yourself to me. ❤️
