Gentleness

When I noticed this boy had been sitting on his own in the corner of the gallery for quite a while, I went over to him and asked him where his parents/adults were. He said he didn't know. After asking his age, I reported the matter to my duty manager.  My manager came down to chat to him to get more information about his mum.  She also asked security and all staff to look out for her.  When the boy's mum finally turned up, my manager came to speak to her. She told the boy's mum that we were worried about her son being left alone and she should not leave him on his own next time. I was really impressed how gentle my manager was with the boy's mum. I wouldn't have been so gentle.  It got me thinking of the nine fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5: 22). I find it very easy to express joy, peace and even kindness, but I struggle with gentleness. Help me, Holy Spirit, to be gentle w...

About Kindness

When I got on the tube with my rucksack and two  bags of grocery shopping, there were no seats available. The driver announced that the tube was being held on the platform for a few minutes. As more commuters got on the tube, I was feeling hot and bothered. I was actually standing in front of four men  - three young and one a lot older man  - who were sitting down, but none of them offered me their seat.  In the old days, men used to give up their seats for ladies. "Where is the kindness?" Finally, the tube started moving, though it stopped again in the tunnel for several more minutes.  When we arrived at the next station, someone got up close by and I was grateful to be able to sit down. Just before we approached the next stop, where I was getting off, I noticed this woman standing nearby. I grabbed her hand and beckoned for her to have my seat, as I was getting off. After I got off, I travelled up the two escalators. I had to walk down a set of stairs to catch...

Kindness

On the way to work, I stopped off at this  supermarket to buy a sandwich and a drink to have for my lunch.  This paticular store is so tiny, they only have a one way system. On the way out, you pay for your stuff at the till. I noticed one assistant was very kind to everyone and wished everyone a good day. I wished her a good day as well. The next morning I was there, I was served again by the same assistant and she was very nice. On day 3, I didn't see the assistant. This time, I was served by this man and I didn't get the same warmth from him.  On day 4, I was back at the shop. I was pleased to see my friend was back. While she was serving me I told her I had missed her the day before as she is so lovely. She said it was her day off and thanked me for my kind words. Kindness is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5: 22) It's amazing what a difference it makes when someone is kind. It changes the whole environment.  I hope that store realises what a valu...

Divine Timing

Image
Ten years ago, I had a desire to work on a particular project. At the time the "door" was closed and I couldn't see a way around it. So I let it go. Recently, I was given an opportunity to pursue the same project. I'm not going to say anything more until it happens. This post is a timely reminder about why it's important not to force things but to let God work things out in His own Divine timing if that is His will for you. God bless. ❤️
