Heatwave

The other day, I read about this man who slapped another passenger on the tube. When other passengers intervened, the "attacker" apologised to the victim. I reckon the unnatural hot weather (for the UK) is making people act out.  I don't care how much some people say they love the heatwave, it's not natural. Otherwise, there would be no need for air conditioning or fans, nor would countries like Spain have Siestas that allow people to have naps in the afternoon. As the UK is not used to extremes of temperatures, our infrastructure is not equipped for them. That's why air conditioning on public transport are ineffective at certain temperatures.  I hear some parents are complaining about schools closing early because of the heat. When I worked at primary schools, there were no air conditioning, we just opened the windows. When it got too hot, we couldn't let the kids play outside for safety reasons. They were very uncomfortable staying in the classroom.  I under...

Staying Cool During a Heatwave

Image
How to keep your homes cool in London during a heatwave - keep the sun out by drawing the curtains.  If it gets too dark, switch the light on. It's a lot cheaper than getting air-conditioning. 😂 Other ways to keep cool during a heatwave: - visit the supermarket.  Pretend to buy something otherwise, they will chuck you out; - visit a shopping mall, you can stay there as long as possible; - visit a library - some of them are air-conditioned; - go to work as most businesses have air-conditioning. Don't forget to have a cardigan with you to keep yourself warm; - visit a park and find shelter under a tree.  If you can, avoid: - buses. They may have air-conditioning, but they don't  seem to be able to cope with temperatures over 25 degrees Celsuis. However, you can keep cool, by always sitting on the side of the bus that's in the shade. You may have to keep swapping seats though; - the tube (underground trains) as most of them are not very well ventilated; - trains as the...

Mini-Heatwave

Image
London is having a mini-heatwave. It's 27C, which is boiling hot for me.  I'm hibernating indoors. I pray that it's cool tomorrow at the museum I'm working in tomorrow.  (I don't think they have air-conditioning). I will take my portable fan with me for support. Stay cool, unless you're into this kind of weather. 😎 Photo of my faithful companion, Fanny. ❤️
