Insect Bites Healed

I am grateful the bumps on my arms, from these pesky mossies feeding on me, have now disappeared. I didn't use anything, I let God do the work.  Knowing British weather, next time I'm at the park it will be a lot cooler and I will be wearing a cardigan.😊

Creature Comforts

Image
When I told my flatmate that the night before I had tried to keep cool by putting a damp towel around my neck, she gave me a spare "cooling down towel" which she said is designed for that purpose. I told her I wasn't even aware there was such a thing.   I tested it by draping the wet cooling down towel around my neck, chest and shoulders. It does keep you cool until the towel dries out and you have to wet it again. However,  I didn't use it when I went to sleep as I don't want to be dependent on it. Instead, I prayed for God to keep me cool and give me comfortable sleep, which He did. I believe that "cooling down towel" represents the life of comfort that a lot of people enjoy, especially in the West. If you have money, you can have anything you want.  Because we appear to have easy access to all the creature comforts and gadgets that we want, we start to believe the visible reality as our source of supply, which is limited; instead of looking to God, th...

God is Always Working

At the last event I was working at, I met lots of old friends from my agency that I haven't seen for a while and we exchanged hugs. When I woke up the next day (Sunday) I had this fully blown cough and cold. It usually takes a few days for them to develop, but it came on suddenly.  I wondered if I had caught the lurgy from someone. 😊 I had an event booked for two days which I cancelled the next day giving the agency enough time to find a replacement. Despite how I was feeling, I acknowledged that God is always working His purpose in, through and for me. During the time I've been off, the Holy Spirit has been teaching me more about my identity in Christ through Bible Scriptures.  Another advantage of staying at home is I've been protected from the extreme heat we've been experiencing. Today, I went out for the first time to do some grocery shopping.  I was due to attend a training session tomorrow, which has been cancelled. I'm back at work on Saturday. I believe Go...

Training Cancelled

Before working at certain venues, you have to attend mandatory training. I was booked for training, but I wasn't looking forward to travelling in the hot weather.  My agency  has informed me that the client has cancelled all training session and will reschedule.  Thank you, Jesus. ❤️

Heatwave

The other day, I read about this man who slapped another passenger on the tube. When other passengers intervened, the "attacker" apologised to the victim. I reckon the unnatural hot weather (for the UK) is making people act out.  I don't care how much some people say they love the heatwave, it's not natural. Otherwise, there would be no need for air conditioning or fans, nor would countries like Spain have Siestas that allow people to have naps in the afternoon. As the UK is not used to extremes of temperatures, our infrastructure is not equipped for them. That's why air conditioning on public transport are ineffective at certain temperatures.  I hear some parents are complaining about schools closing early because of the heat. When I worked at primary schools, there were no air conditioning, we just opened the windows. When it got too hot, we couldn't let the kids play outside for safety reasons. They were very uncomfortable staying in the classroom.  I under...

Chocolate Ice Lollies

Image
Two months ago, I met someone at the bus stop who gave me a chocolate ice lolly. I hadn't had that particular brand before. Since it got warmer, I've bought a few, which I have shared with my flatmate.   Now she's been buying them and sharing hers with me. Thank you, God, for providing chocolate ice lollies that keep me cool when it's boiling hot. ❤️

Staying Cool During a Heatwave

Image
How to keep your homes cool in London during a heatwave - keep the sun out by drawing the curtains.  If it gets too dark, switch the light on. It's a lot cheaper than getting air-conditioning. 😂 Other ways to keep cool during a heatwave: - visit the supermarket.  Pretend to buy something otherwise, they will chuck you out; - visit a shopping mall, you can stay there as long as possible; - visit a library - some of them are air-conditioned; - go to work as most businesses have air-conditioning. Don't forget to have a cardigan with you to keep yourself warm; - visit a park and find shelter under a tree.  If you can, avoid: - buses. They may have air-conditioning, but they don't  seem to be able to cope with temperatures over 25 degrees Celsuis. However, you can keep cool, by always sitting on the side of the bus that's in the shade. You may have to keep swapping seats though; - the tube (underground trains) as most of them are not very well ventilated; - trains as the...

British Mosquitos

After I noticed several bumps on my arms, I wondered whether I was having an allergic reaction to something I ate. My flatmate reminded me that they were probably mosquito bites from my walk at the park. She said she's also got little bumps on her arms and legs after walking in the park. British mosquitos are so polite and discreet, you can't even feel them biting you. Thank God they don't transmit any diseases. 😂 Ps: the bumps disappeared after a few days.

God's Protection

I was so sorry to hear about the train collision in Bedford (southeast of England), which killed the driver and injured many passengers. May God comfort the driver's family and loved ones and pour His healing grace on those who are injured. As someone who is constantly travelling on public transport - buses, tubes (underground trains), trains - I do so with the constant awareness that I move in Christ who is my constant protection. He is the one in control of my journeys. God bless all those involved directly and indirectly in the collision.  Thank you, God, for Your constant protection. ❤️ ----- Relevant Bible verses: "Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone." Psalm 91:  9-12 “God, who made the wor...

God at Work

So I was booked for an early and long shift at this event.  I planned to leave home at 5.15am to catch the train. While I was getting ready for work, I asked God to make the upcoming shift easy, fun and wonderful.  I also asked Him to make it so easy that I don't have to do anything. 😂 My journey to work was very easy and I arrived at work around 6.45am for a 7am start. At the theatre, I was allocated at, I checked the schedule. The talks were 20 mins long, back to back. My colleagues and I were required to scan visitors in, do queue management, ensure visitors had headsets and clean them after the talks finished, and make sure the theatre was clean.  We were even one staff short. It turned out we only had to scan visitors for the first talk, which was extremely busy. At the end of that talk, the organisers  came round to help us clear the theatre and clean the headsets. We also had a cleaner in to clean the theatre.  For the rest of the the talks, the scanning...

Hug Stop

Image
While I was out walking at the park with my friend, we spotted this heart shape on the path with the words, "Hug Stop."  So we stopped, stood in the heart shape and gave each other warm hugs. What a lovely idea! Love hugs. ❤️

Trusting in Jesus

While I was travelling on the bus in south London, I noticed a bus with the destination "Foots Cray" which I found rather amusing.  I decided to write a post about it on Facebook.  An error message came up that it wasn't posted so I discarded that post.  I tried again, but the same message came up and I discarded it. I wondered if my post had been censored for some reason. When I visited my friend at the hospital, I told her about my attempt to post about Foots Cray.  I came up with reasons why it hadn't been posted. Maybe it was a secret code or it's a crazy name?  We had fun with those ideas. When I left the hospital, I took a photo of a tree near the hospital and posted it on Facebook and there was no problem.  I then noticed a friend's post saying he was grateful Facebook was now back. Aha, so that's why I couldn't post hours earlier. When I don't have the full picture, I make up stories and scenarios that are not true. When I trust in the Lord...

Funny Names

Image
So I discovered there is a place in south London called Foots Cray. There's also a road in south London called Ha Ha.  I think I'll stick to living in north London, we've got more sensible names. 😂  Here is a photo I took while I was in south London. At least they still have trees

Michael Jackson Fan?

Image
Zeus, my flatmate's cat, doesn't like noise. The moment we start chatting near him, he's off.  The worse thing I can ever do to him is sing, as he finds my voice irritating.  While I was getting ready for work, I was watching Michael Jackson's video, "Beat It" on my laptop. Zeus came in my bedroom to say hello. He not only sat down next to the laptop, he didn't mind me singing along and ruining the song. He even rubbed his head against the laptop. When the next Michael Jackson video,  "Smooth Criminal", came on, he sat quietly and listened to it. Zeus was either putting up with the noise because he loves me or he's a fan of Michael Jackson. 😂

If I am What I Eat

Image
If we are what we eat, I should have fins as I eat a lot of tuna. I also eat a lot of red grapes, which turns me into wine. I eat lots of pasta as well. I have no idea what that makes me! 😂 Thank you, God, for providing foods that I love. ❤️ Photo of my meal - jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise and sweet corn

Why Everyone Needs Jesus

I like hearing testimonies about how new believers come to Christ and how Christ is transforming them from the inside out.  However, I believe extreme cases testimonies from people who were previously addicted to drugs, criminals in prison may not encourage non-believers to come to Christ. What do I mean by this? Most people are law abiding citizens who consider themselves good. Some  give money to charity and volunteer their time to charity, and there are lots who follow various religions. If you think you are not perfect, but you strive to be a good person by doing the right thing, why would you need a Saviour?  It's the real sinners like criminals, abusers and drug addicts who need to be saved.   That's why it took me ages to accept Jesus as my Saviour because I believed in God and considered myself very spiritual and was striving to be a better person and volunteered for various charities. I even studied the Bible and lived by Biblical principles....

Maturing in Christ

Image
Thank you, Jesus for giving me Your life. ✝️❤️ ---- Relevant Bible verses: "Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."" John 3: 3-6 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5: 17 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2: 20

I Love to Love You

While I was lying in bed and being perfectly still with my eyes closed, I heard a voice in my head singing: "I love to love you, baby. I love to love you." I've never heard that song before. Even though the pitch of the voice sounded high, I couldn't really tell whether it was male or female.  It could have been sung by a male with a countertenor voice. I have recorded the ditty on my phone and I've been humming and singing it to myself. I love you too, Lord. ❤️ ---- Relevant Bible verses: "Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46: 10 "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love." 1 John 4: 8 "We love Him because He first loved us." 1 John 4: 19

Now is the Day of Salvation

When I checked my work calendar, I saw I had nothing booked for next week.  The Holy Spirit reminded me that what appears to be empty space is filled with His presence. Therefore, I should never look for my supply in the past or in the future. Everything I need is available now in God. "Now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6: 2) There are times when God will inspire you to take the necessary practical steps. For instance, I needed a cover and screen protector for my phone. I was inspired to go to this shop to get them. It took a while for the shop owner to find the right cover for my phone. When it came to the screen protector, again, he couldn't find one. I suggested that I just buy the cover, but he insisted that he had one in stock. He soon found one that was right for my phone. God reminded me that just as the shop owner didn't want to lose my business opportunity so is the moment of now. A few hours later, I received an email from my agency about work opp...

Blue is Also My Colour

Image
So I went to our local phone accessories shop to buy a new cover and screen protector for my phone. After rifling through his products, the shop owner found one cover for my phone, but it was blue. I asked him if he had it in black but he said it was the only one he had in stock for my phone type. He then found a screen protector that matched my phone screen and fitted it for me. As I was saying goodbye to the shop owner and his other customers, I told him I still didn't like the colour. "It's a nice colour," he said. "It will bring you luck." He would say that, wouldn't he? 😊 As I walking back, I told God blue is not really my colour. Immediately, two cars with the same shade of blue as my new phone cover, drove by, one after another. Very funny, God! I then looked down and realised I was wearing dark blue trainers. When I came home, I drank from my water bottle which was almost the same shade as my phone cover. I also noticed  the t-shirt I had change...

God is My Transportation

Tube strikes, what tube strikes?   Two days ago, on the first strike day, I travelled by bus. It took me three hours to visit a friend at a south London hospital and four hours to get home. Today, despite the tube strikes, I was still able to get to work 45 minutes early. Thank you, God, for always getting me safely to my destination. ❤️ ------ Relevant Bible verse: "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4: 19

Expectations

Image
Today, I went for a walk at Trent Country Park. The weather was cool and there were very few people around.  This park dates back to the fourteenth century, but it looks timeless.  I expect the trees to be there forever. It got me thinking of people's expectations.  As my 60th birthday is fast approaching, I am constantly being asked what I'm going to do to celebrate my 60th birthday. I've been told it's a milestone. I believe milestone is more about people's expectation about that age, which is only a number.  According to this culture, at 60 you are  considered to be a senior citizen and you are expected to be slowing down or even thinking of retirement. There is also the expectation that a 60 year old is supposed to look and act a certain way. Who makes up these rules anyway? Well, the only expectation that counts is Jesus, who came in a human form, died on the cross, was buried and was resurrected so those who believe in Him can have everlasting life.  ...
