Expectations

Today, I went for a walk at Trent Country Park. The weather was cool and there were very few people around.

This park dates back to the fourteenth century, but it looks timeless.  I expect the trees to be there forever.

It got me thinking of people's expectations.  As my 60th birthday is fast approaching, I am constantly being asked what I'm going to do to celebrate my 60th birthday. I've been told it's a milestone. I believe milestone is more about people's expectation about that age, which is only a number.  According to this culture, at 60 you are  considered to be a senior citizen and you are expected to be slowing down or even thinking of retirement.

There is also the expectation that a 60 year old is supposed to look and act a certain way.

Who makes up these rules anyway?

Well, the only expectation that counts is Jesus, who came in a human form, died on the cross, was buried and was resurrected so those who believe in Him can have everlasting life.  Because of Jesus I expect to keep on living until He returns, just like I expect the trees to keep fluorishing at that park unless humans decide otherwise.

While I am going to acknowledge the actual day, I do not consider it a milestone as life is everlasting. I will be takng advantage of certain benefits that come with hitting 60 like applying for my 60+ pass, which means I get to enjoy subsidised travel on public transport; and enjoying  discounts at various art and cultural venues.  😊

Here are some photos from my walk at Trent  Park.
