Walking with God

After I had finished scanning and paying for my stuff at the supermarket's self-checkout, I noticed this man scanning his receipt at the gate to let him out, but it didn't open. After trying twice, he pulled his phone out to, presumably, scan the receipt on his phone, but the gate remained closed. I said to him, "let me have a go."  As soon as I scanned the barcode on my receipt, the gate opened for me.  I told the man and the woman he was with to come through and they thanked me. The barcode reminds me of what Jesus told His disciples that He is the only way to the Father God.  All born again Christians are Christ's representatives, pointing the way to Christ. You can try as many barcodes as you like, but they're never going to open that Gate. Believe me, I've tried many barcodes and they were useless. When I got on the bus, I went to sit upstairs as the lower deck was already full. The only window seats still available upstairs were at the back so I sat in one. As the journey progressed, lots of school kids came on and the bus became packed full. At the last stop we all started queueing up in the aisle. I let this man who was in the seat in front of me get in front of me to join the queue. As the queue moved forward, I let this woman in the next seat get in front of me. The woman let another passenger in front join the queue; and that passenger let the next passenger get in front of him; and so on. We all walked down the stairs. As I was getting off, I said thank you to the bus driver.  I heard someone behind me also saying thank you to the driver. Thank you, God, for our transport system in London and for all the kind and considerate passengers who travel on them. ❤️

This is a tail, I mean, tale of two cats:  a stray cat and one that has a home. The stray cat, called, Loudmouth is free to come and go as he pleases, but that freedom comes at a huge price. He has no home, no one to take care of him, and lives in constant fear. He gets food by either sneaking into people's homes to steal food or relies on the kindness of strangers to feed and pet him. (My flatmate regularly feeds him and I feed him occasionally). As soon as he's finished eating, he's off to his life of freedom.  In inclement weather, Loudmouth has to find a shelter somewhere. If Loudmouth is injured or sick, there's no one to take him to the vet or take care of his injuries unless someone decides to call a cat charity organisation.   Unlike Loudmouth, Zeus  (my flatmate's cat) has a home where he is loved and safe. On my way to work, I was very aware that my pants (underwear) were feeling very uncomfortable undernearh my trousers. As I had a lot of time before my shift started, I decided to pop into this store, which is renowned for their great lingerie. I chose a packet of four underwear in my size and preferred style and headed off to the ladies' toilet to remove the annoying pants and wear the new ones. I then chucked the old underwear in the bin. When I put my trousers back on, I noticed I was still having the same issue.  Give me a break!  That's my size and this style is supposed to fit nicely.  I couldn't return them  as I had already used one of them. I will just have to put up with it for now. The next day, I had the same issue with another underwear that was perfect before. Either the underwear has shrunk or my bum has gone bigger. When some people hear that I work in museums, galleries and theatres, they think I am "lucky" to be around artefacts; and get to see lots of art exhibitions, great masterpieces and many shows for free.  I would say yes and no. Let me address the "no" part first.  As a Christian, my world view is totally different from the world of the contents and artefacts in those places. So I have to protect myself from those ideas.  When I first started working at this particular museum, a colleague and I went into this gallery to see the artefacts, but I wasn't feeling comfortable around them. That night, I had a dream where I was being stabbed in my heart. This happened twice.  After calling on the name of Jesus, it stopped and I woke up. Later, while I was sharing my dream with my colleague, the duty manager overheard our conversation and asked me if I had been around the artefact that had nails. Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan (the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) and their two children returned from America to live in the UK. King Charles has made it very clear that Harty and Meghan will not be allowed to carry out royal duties or use their HRH titles as they have chosen to live as private citizens.  In other words, they can't be half in and half out.  They're either going to represent the royal family 100% and abide by the royal household rules or do their own thing.  Harry and Megan's dilemma reminds me of what it means to live as a born again Christian.  The essence of Christianity is crucifying your self and allowing Christ to live in you. (Galatians 2: 20).  In other words, you no longer have a life of your own, you are representing Christ according to His teachings in thought, word and deed. In my job, I work with a lot of kids.  Sometimes, I work in the soft play area, which is very controlled as we have certain rules that the kids and parents have to abide by. The kids only have a certain amount of time to play before we have to call time and finish that session and start the next one. Some of the parents look very awkward as you can tell they've forgotten how to play.  One time, while I was laying down the rules of the play area, I was reminded of Seven, from Star Trek Voyager, when she said  "Fun will now commence," and it made me chuckle. 😀 🖖 VOY: "Ashes to Ashes", S6, E18

When the bus we were waiting for arrived, this woman got on before me. After she tapped her card on the machine, a beep came on signifying she didn't have enough money on her card. She tried again and got the same result.  Just as the passenger was about to get off, I pulled out my Oyster card that had cash on it and paid for her. After thanking me, the woman offered to reimburse me, but I refused. She asked if she could buy me coffee, but I declined. I was amazed how she was having difficulty receiving my gift. It was only £1.75. During the journey, the woman approached me again and insisted on giving me a box of sweets which she said was from Cyprus. She told me she used to live in London, but now lives in Cyprus with her family. She was currently in London visiting her son and grandkids. Yesterday, I thought of a colleague I've worked with in the past at this recurring event. I always have a laugh with him.  I wondered if he was going to be working at the next event in a few weeks' time. Today, on my way home from work, I saw the same colleague working with a tour guide at this tube station. He was really surprised to see me and described our meeting as "random."  I then asked him if he was working at the upcoming event.  He said he wasn't sure, but he will let me know if he is. We couldn't chat as he had to get back to work.  It got me thinking about our  "random" meeting. There are approximately 9 million people living in London. What are the chances of me seeing my colleague when we both live in opposite sides: I live in north London and he's in south London. I was thinking of a colleague I've worked with at this museum. I wondered if she'd had any shifts lately. I've been busy working at other museums. The next day I had a shift wotking on three shows at this theatre. We had l breaks in between shows. I was wondering whether I could pop into the local art gallery to see this exhibition I've heard a lot about. Would I be able to see the exhibition for free? During our final break, I went outside for a walk. I stopped to chat to two colleagues who sometimes work at the local art gallery. They asked me if I'd seen the exhibition.  I said no. They said I could go and have a quick look during my break. They assured me if I showed the gallery security my day pass for the theatre, they'll let me in. Within a few minutes, I was in the art gallery. I then spotted the colleague I had been thinking about the day before.  After we shared hugs she said, "I was thinking about you this morning." While I was working with a volunteer at this museum's cloakroom, a man came in with his young daughter. He asked us if anyone had handed in a cuddly toy elephant.  I looked in the lost property drawer, but it was empty.  Right at that moment a colleague, who is very experienced with the museum's procedures, was walking by and heard our conversation. She asked the man to fill in a form and promised to get back to him when we find the elephant. After the man and his daughter walked away, I asked my colleague to show me where the forms were kept and she explained the museum's lost property procedures.  I then asked her how she had known I needed help at that very moment. She said it must have been her intuition. While we were chatting, I noticed one of the duty managers walking by. I called out to her and said hello. We noticed she was wearing a top with lots of tiny elephants. We laughed and told her a little girl had lost her elephant. The volunteer and I went back to serv...

When I came home, I decided to do some laundry. After the wash finished, I started hanging the items on the clothes horse and radiators. I noticed one sock was missing. I looked for it in the washing machine, inside the other clothes, on the floor, but couldn't find it. I kept repeating to myself, "Where are you, sock?"  I looked again in the washing machine and spun the drum, but still no sock. Finally, I said, Lord, you know where everything is. Please show me where the sock is or put it somewhere I can see it. I then went to lie down. After a few seconds, I got up, looked inside a tote bag I usually carry with me everywhere and there was the missing and unwashed sock. I have no idea how that sock got in that bag. So Zeus, my flatmate's cat, doesn't like kitchen foil. He gets skittish around it. Ditto my nail file, but he's getting used to it. While I was changing the bin and trying to open the black bin liner, he ran out of the kitchen.  At first I was concerned and followed him asking him if he was okay. When he saw I still had the bin liner in my hand, he hid himself under the table. That's when I realised he was scared of the bin liner. What a strange creature! He probably thinks I'm strange too. 😀

At the museum I was working at, a large group of European teenage students and their guides came in.  While I was patrolling one gallery, I noticed a student breaking the museum rules. When I asked her to stop, she and her friend became quite obnoxious. I reported the matter to the duty manager. I also shared my experience with  a colleague and she was very sympathetic.  After work, I walked with a colleague to the local tube station. I noticed the same group of students standing by listening to their guide. When I arrived at the platform, there was a train already there, but the doors closed before I could get on.  I didn't mind missing that train as the next train was due in a few minutes. Suddenly, I noticed the same group of European students coming down the escalators to catch the train I was waiting for.  They spread down the platform. Today is my birthday. I give thanks to God for giving me 60 revolutions around the sun. To me, the sun represents Christ, who is my life; and my trajectory around the sun represents my personal walk and relationship with Christ, which is unique to every born again Christian. Makeup on, makeup off. Same old ritual. Sometimes, while I'm putting on my makeup,  the cat sits on my bed and stares at me. Maybe he's thinking "why do you bother putting all that gunk on your face?  If you wash yourself frequently like I do, you won't need to paint your face." 😀

To volunteer for this particular organisation, I've had to have an enhanced DBS (discosure barring service) criminal record check as I will be working with vulnerable adults and possibly kids. Having a DBS check has become the norm these days, at least in the jobs I've had. I have had enhanced DBS checks when I've worked as a carer, at schools, in church and as a volunteer at this hospital.  To work on set, casting agencies won't offer you work unless you have a basic DBS. I also need a basic DBS for my jobs in visitor experience, as I'm working with kids a lot of the time. I think it's sad that society has come to this that you have to do a criminal check to work with kids and vulnerable adults, but I believe this is society's way of loving your neighbour. My birthday is around the corner, which makes me eligible to apply for a 60+ Plus Oyster Card.  With this Card, I get free travel on public transport all around London after 9am on weekdays (after 9.30am  for overground trains) and unlimited travel on all public transport at weekends. I received my Oyster Card today. Hurrah! 🙂 With this huge benefit, I intend to visit lots of parks and places of interest around London.   Thank you, God for this wonderful benefit. ❤️
