That Kind of Day

Before I went to the staff kitchen to have my lunch, I stopped off at the cafe to buy a bar of chocolate. There was only one member of staff serving and there were two customers ahead of me ordering several cups of coffee which was taking ages.   When it was finally my turn, I showed him my staff pass. "Why do you keep showing me your pass?" he said. "So I can have my 20% staff discount," I said. "I already know you work here," he said. "You're wearing a uniform, remember?" "Oh yeah!" I burst out laughing. After he scanned the chocolate, he asked me to tap my card. I absentmindedly tapped the bar of chocolate on the machine. "Looks like you really need this chocolate," he said, which made me chuckle. "Yeah, I'm having that kind of day," I said. While I was eating my lunch, I was laughing to myself. I even shared my experience with my manager and a colleague, which made them laugh. After I finished work, I saw...

Meeting Kindred Spirits

On my way to work, I had to travel a different way as the tube line that I normally use was closed.  When I got off the tube to change to the next line, I noticed there were lots of steps leading down to the platform. That means, on my return journey, there would be lots of steps to climb up. I didn't fancy doing that. I decided to check out the tube map to see if there was an alternative step-free route back.  A transport staff standing nearby asked if he could help me. At first, I said I was fine, but then I asked him for his advice.  He asked me where I would be travelling home to. After telling him, he suggested an alternative route, which I wasn't too keen on. I thanked him and told him I would travel a different way. While I was waiting for my train, the transport staff and I had a chat. He told me he knew the area where I live as he lives in the neighbouring town. When I told him I lived opposite this huge supermarket, he said when that supermarket first opened, he...

Fun at Work

Every day before I go to work, I always ask God to make my day easy, fun and wonderful.  He always delivers. Here are some funny episodes at work. A colleague sent out the following message on the radio to the duty manager:   "Duty manager, a child has just rearranged the exhibition!" I reckon the child thought his ideas were better than the curator's. 😂 ***** While I was chatting to this visitor at this museum, she asked me where my parents were from. I told her it was Sierra Leone. She said, "Do you have relatives there or have they moved over here?" "In a manner of speaking, my mum, dad, uncles and aunts have all moved to the other side."   Because  I was laughing at the pun, it put her at ease and she also chuckled. 😂 ***** When I caught someone in this gallery touching a furniture, I asked her not to touch it.  Her friend said, "She was polishing it."   Later, on their way out, I asked them if they'd given the furniture a good poli...

About Law, Grace and Mercy

When the bus I was on was approaching this bus stop, no one rang the bell so the driver continued.  I heard this woman downstairs yelling at the driver and asking him to stop, but he continued driving. The passenger kept saying, "Oh God."  Finally,, the driver stopped at the next stop, about quarter of a mile away, and the passenger got off. I believe the bus driver represents the Law, which shows no mercy. If you break the law, which in this case was not ringing the bell for the next bus stop, the driver won't stop.   Even if he wanted to show mercy to the passenger, he couldn't anyway because there are cameras on the road. I know for a fact that if a bus driver gets caught stopping where he's not supposed to, he will either get disciplined or lose his job. I believe that's the danger of AI and robots taking over many human tasks in the future.  AIs are like the Law which will punish you if you don't follow the rules.   How do you apply the Law while ...

Inspired by the Holy Spirit

When I share my experiences, I believe it is the Holy Spirit in me who inspires me how to write the piece and helps me understand how the Scripture relates to my life experiences. There is one thing He lets me do - list the Bible verses in the order they appear in the Bible because He knows  I am quite anal that way. 😀  ----  Relevant Bible verses: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Headache Healed

I woke up around 4am with the kind of headache I used to have years ago when I suffered from migraine.  As I know I have  already been healed from it, I believed this was a  spiritual attack. I reminded myself that I live and move and have my being in God.  I repeated that truth over and over again until I fell asleep. When I woke up two hours later, the headache was gone. I live, move and have my being in God forever. Thank you, God, for being my protection and my health. ❤️ ---- Relevant Bible verses: "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8: 31-32 "for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’" Acts 17: 28 "...who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed...

Travelling in Central London

After I finished work, I took the tube to central London. I was hoping to see a friend who works at a large art gallery in town. I looked for her at the points where she is usually located, but she wasn't there.  Her colleague told me she was working somewhere in the building. I knew she wasn't allowed to tell me where exactly for security reasons. I decided to text my friend later. I decided to catch a bus home. After waiting for more than ten minutes at the bus stop, I checked the app to see when my bus was due. The app said because of some demonstrations in central London, there were no buses stopping there for the next 90 minutes. Time to use an alternative route. Before I left, I shared the travel information with people still waiting at the bus stop. I decided to catch the tube home. I knew the nearest tube would be very busy, so I decided to walk to the tube station ahead of this one, this way I would get a seat on the train. This tube station was even more crowded with ...

God's Reality TV Show

Image
One of my favourite films is "The Truman Show", which I've watched numerous times. Truman doesnt know that he was born and has been living in a reality TV show his entire life. All his loved ones and colleagues are actors, and the strangers he meets occasionally are extras. Every day of his life has been created, scripted and directed by Christof.* (See note below).  When Truman eventually realises that he's in a TV show, he is given the choice whether he wants to remain in the show or go out into the big bad world. Truman chooses to exit the show. I believe when I gave my life to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour, I chose to live in a Reality TV show where  the Living God is the writer, producer, director, casting director, actors and extras. Here are some examples of God at work. I had been thinking of several colleagues I have worked with at museums and galleries and wondering how they are, as I haven't seen them for a while.  I was booked to...

Rooted and Grounded in Love

Image
Reminder to self: I am rooted and grounded in the Love of Christ. ❤️ "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us," Ephesians 3: 14-20 Ps: I took this photo three years ago at St James's Park. I was actually focused on the pigeon. 😊

How Sweet!

During my walk, I noticed  this man putting a Christmas tree inside a van, I said to him, "Is it Christmas already?" "What's that, sweetheart?" he said. I repeated myself, which made Him chuckle. It got me thinking about the affectionate terms people use to address others.  I have been called "sweetheart, darling, lovely, hun." I have a friend who was born and bred in Yorkshire, where they address people as "love." Even though he's been living in London for over 40 years, he still addresses me as "love."  I don't get offended at all when a guy addresses me as "darling" or "sweetheart." I think it's really sweet. ❤️

Oxford Street

When tourists come to London, a lot of them want to go to Oxford Street. According to Wikipedia, "It is Europe's busiest shopping street, with around 300,000 daily visitors, and as of 2012 had approximately 300 shops." Halfway down that road is "Oxford Circus" a tube station which is usually heaving with shoppers. It's worse at Christmas.  My mum used to say that at Oxford Circus, there are humans, angels and demons all going about their business. I thought it was funny. I also believe mum was spot on. 👍 If you ever come to London, be sure to visit Oxford Street at your peril. 😀 Oxford Street - Wikipedia https://share.google/FIV9Bumzf1g2KcERf

Faith and God’s Goodness

Image
Over the last few days I've been meditating on faith and the goodness of God.  I've also been singing the song, "Goodness of God." The chorus goes, "Your goodness is running after, is running after me." While I was out for my walk this morning, I was meditating on God's goodness and  mercy following me. (Psalm 23: 6). This evening, I went to this town centre to buy a few stuff I needed. When I got off the bus, I heard the same song, "Goodness of God" being blasted from a speaker across the road.  I noticed  the person playing the song was a  homeless man, or appeared to be. I was reminded of what the Bible teaches about faith: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11: 1 In other words, you have to keep believing and praising God for what you are hoping for, despite your circumstance. I went into this shop. I was in there for about ten minutes, but they didn't have what I was loo...

My Favourite Things

Image
Two of my favourite things are: - Going for a long walk in the park; - Going for long  drives on the bus. If it's a long drive, I sit upstairs.  For me, the best time to travel on buses is off-peak when there are no school kids. Today I get to do both. I give thanks to God for giving me the opportunity to enjoy both. ❤️

Hammer Time Has Passed

Image
At this museum I was working at, I noticed this woman's trousers. I told her I liked her trousers and that it reminded me of MC  Hammer's trousers in his "U Can't Touch This" music video. I could tell from the look on her face that she didn't have a clue what I was on about. I asked her if she'd heard of MC Hammer and she said no. I suggested that she Googled him. All cultures and subcultures have people who are famous for a time. As time passes, these celebrities are forgotten and replaced by new ones. And so the fickleness of fame goes on. Jesus is one Man who is known throughout all generations - past, present and future. Even before Jesus appeared in human form, He was prophesied about. In fact, the Bible is all about Him.  Fame comes and goes, but Jesus is forever. ❤️ ---- "The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40: 8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13: 8 Ph...

About Beauty

So I went to do a shift at this art gallery. The last time I worked there was about three months ago. As soon as this permanent staff saw me, he gave me a hug. He told me I had a glow and was looking lighter. "What moisturiser are you using?" he said.  "You know me, it's the Lord. He is my glow." Although my colleague seemed to accept what I had said (as he believes in God too, though he's a Muslim), later he asked me again what moisturiser I was using for my skin. I reminded him again about my faith in my Lord Jesus Christ. The same colleague once told me I was looking "snatched" for a woman my age. At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about as I don't speak GenZ. He told me it meant attractive. While I do use moisturiser, I believe my beauty comes from the Holy Spirit living in me. Thank you, God, for giving me Your beauty.  ❤️  ----- Relevant Bible verses: "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit withi...

About Kindness

When I got on the tube with my rucksack and two  bags of grocery shopping, there were no seats available. The driver announced that the tube was being held on the platform for a few minutes. As more commuters got on the tube, I was feeling hot and bothered. I was actually standing in front of four men  - three young and one a lot older man  - who were sitting down, but none of them offered me their seat.  In the old days, men used to give up their seats for ladies. "Where is the kindness?" Finally, the tube started moving, though it stopped again in the tunnel for several more minutes.  When we arrived at the next station, someone got up close by and I was grateful to be able to sit down. Just before we approached the next stop, where I was getting off, I noticed this woman standing nearby. I grabbed her hand and beckoned for her to have my seat, as I was getting off. After I got off, I travelled up the two escalators. I had to walk down a set of stairs to catch...

Jesus Loves Me

Image
I believe like all technology, AI is a tool that I can use to express and share the love of God. I asked a gpt app to create an image of me being loved by the Lord. (I provided a photo).  This was what came out. (See photo below) I love it.  Jesus loves me. ❤️ ----- Relevant Bible verses: "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love." 1 John 4: 8 "We love Him because He first loved us." I John 4:19

God is the Superhero

Image
In the news, there's a story about this Australian family (a mother and her three children) whose paddleboards and kayak were swept out to sea. The mum asked the eldest (13 year old) son, Austin, to swim 4km to get help. According to news reports, the boy swam for four hours, then ran 2 km to the nearest phone to get help. His family was then rescued. While the newspapers have been portraying the boy as a hero, I've been wondering whether the boy believed in God. In the attached video, Austin is describing what he was thinking of while he was swimming.  "I was thinking of all my friends at school, friends in my Christian youth." (6.29) Aha, Austin mentions "Christian youth" which means he has been brought up in the Christian faith. At 9.43 of the video, Austin continues,  "I don't think it was me that actually did it. I was thinking of God the whole time. I kept on praying, I kept on praying and I said to God, "I'll get baptised, I'll g...

11: 11

(Previously posted on Facebook on 4.2.2023) "Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word." Psalm 103: 20 “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” Ephesians 5: 14 ---- Many years ago when I was into the New Age, there was this obsession  about seeing 11:11, which I noticed quite a lot.  The belief among "light workers" was that whenever you see these numbers, it's a reminder from the angels to wake you up from your spiritual "sleep." As a believer in and follower of Christ, I know real angels of God do not operate that way, they act only on God's Word. (Psalm 103: 20)  So where did the belief in 11:11 as a sign to wake up come from? Well, in the Bible (Gospel of John chapter 11), Jesus is sent a message that his dear friend, Lazarus, is sick. Jesus waits several days before he decides to visit Lazarus (who by then was now dead and buried). This is what Jes...

Copycat

Image
Usually when my flatmate's cat, Zeus, is ready to come back in and the windows are shut, he sits outside and waits for one of us to let him in.  (We don't have a cat flap). One day Zeus had a cat brainwave: "I can make myself look bigger and more conspicious by sitting on the fence. That would grab my humans' attention." The first time I saw Zeus sitting on the fence, I was so startled I thought it was a black panther. Then I realised it was our little black panther, Zeus. Before going out, I went into the kitchen to get some drink. I noticed the local stray cat I have named Loudmouth sitting on the fence. He'd obviously been studying Zeus and thought he would mimic Zeus's behaviour to get our attention. While Loudmouth did get my attention and I took his photo, I had no intention of letting him in as he is a stray cat. When Loudmouth started coming round (after he had obviously been abandoned), I was going to call the local animal shelter to find him a ne...
