That Kind of Day
Before I went to the staff kitchen to have my lunch, I stopped off at the cafe to buy a bar of chocolate. There was only one member of staff serving and there were two customers ahead of me ordering several cups of coffee which was taking ages. When it was finally my turn, I showed him my staff pass.
"Why do you keep showing me your pass?" he said.
"So I can have my 20% staff discount," I said.
"I already know you work here," he said. "You're wearing a uniform, remember?"
"Oh yeah!" I burst out laughing.
After he scanned the chocolate, he asked me to tap my card. I absentmindedly tapped the bar of chocolate on the machine.
"Looks like you really need this chocolate," he said, which made me chuckle.
"Yeah, I'm having that kind of day," I said.
While I was eating my lunch, I was laughing to myself. I even shared my experience with my manager and a colleague, which made them laugh.
After I finished work, I saw the guy from the cafe speaking to the security guard. He teased me about my earlier mishap and even shared the story with the security guard, which made him laugh.
While the cafe guy and I were walking to the local train station, I asked him why they had been so short-staffed. He said a member of staff had gone home sick and it had taken them a while for their replacement to arrive. That was around the time I had visited the cafe. He said he'd been having a hard day, but my silliness had made him smile.
Thank you, God, for using my foolishness to brighten someone's day. ☀️😊❤️
