In Everything Give Thanks

I was booked to work at this concert which was scheduled to finish after 12 am. During the briefing, we were told the company was going to provide taxis home for all staff including agency staff. I was so grateful I wasn't going to have to travel by night bus.

After our shift finished around 12.30am, I checked what time my taxi was coming.  They had this system where those who lived in the same area of London were sharing the same taxi.

My travel companion told me she had received a text to let her know that our taxi was outside. So we went outside to look for the taxi. In the meantime, my companion started complaining about how tired she was and her feet were aching.  At first I was sympathetic as it had been a long evening with very loud music.  She then told me she'd received another text cancelling our taxi. She said she was thinking that they were going  to cancel our taxi because they always cancel her taxi as taxis don't seem to like the area she lives in.  I told her I didn't share her expectation.

While my companion continued to complain, I was secretly thanking God for taking me home safely.

My companion  suggested that we go back inside and wait for our taxi to arrive. Most of my colleagues were still in the staff room and were having similar taxi cancellation issues. My travel companion sat down, but I found a seat away from her and chatted to a colleague from my agency, who I enjoy talking to.

After a while my travel companion told me she'd decided she wasn't going to wait, she was going to make her own way home. I then told my manager that I would now be traveling on my own.

Management decided to use another taxi company. Within a few minutes, taxis started arriving. Within half an hour, most of the staff had gone.

When my taxi arrived, a colleague asked me if I was going to be able to find my way out of the building. I said no. He then accompanied me all the way out. Another manager outside showed me to my taxi.

In the taxi, I heard this familiar song. I realised it was the theme tune for Star Trek: The Next Generation. I am a huge fan of Star Trek. The song reminded me that  earlier on, while I was on my break, I had posted a comment on a friend's post on Facebook. He is also a Star Trek fan. At the end of my post, I had written "LLAP" (Live, Long and Prosper).

I had a nice chat with the driver, or rather listened to him sharing his knowledge of electric cars. He also shared his Catholic faith.

When we arrived at my place around 3am, the driver apologised for talking too much. He said he had been tired, but sharing his passion had energised him. He said he was about to finish work when he saw my booking and he decided to take it. I told him I was glad he did.

I believe no matter what the situation, there is always something to be thankful to God for.  (I Thessalonians 5: 18) God dissolves negativity and makes everything work out for the best. ❤️

LLAP!  🖖
