What RIP Means to Me

Whenever people hear that a "high profile" person has died, social media becomes flooded with RIPs i.e. Rest in Peace.

What does RIP really mean?

As a Christian, I believe in the afterlife. Jesus, who we follow, teaches us that those who have received Him as their Lord and Saviour will live with Him forever and those who don't will live with the other guy,  the devil, in hell forever. Either way, we all get to live forever.

In the Bible, we are told Jesus was crucified with two criminals.  While one mocked Jesus, the other acknowledged Jesus' innocence and divinity. That criminal had such faith in Jesus, he repented and asked Jesus to remember him in His kingdom. Jesus granted the man's request. (See Luke 23: 39- 43) In other words, before the criminal died, he was saved and his sins were forgiven.  He is now living with God in heaven forever.

The criminal's conversation with Jesus on the cross reminds us that it's never too late to call on the Lord and be saved. (Joel 2; 32) It could even happen on someone's deathbed.

I always hope that the person who has passed has been saved. If they are not and their spirit has been permanently disconnected from their body, it's too late. No amount of praying or RIPs is going to save them. We can always pray for the deceased's loved ones.

Of course, people are going to say, "That's your belief and I don't buy into it. There is no hell!"

Fair enough. You are free to believe whatever you want. I am confident that no one dies and they either "die" and get to live in peace or in torment forever.

I know that because of Jesus Christ, I  live in Him, now and forever.

Peace to all, whatever your RIPs mean. ❤️
