About Dreams

After I heard the news that a footballer (from the football club I actually support) had died in a car accident, I felt sad for his family and loved ones, his football colleagues and all football fans of the club.

It reminded me of a university friend. When we met, she already had a baby and was living with her  boyfriend.  Despite the fact that she had many responsibilities, she was very disciplined and goal focused. She even had a 10 year plan. I had no responsibilities, but I still had problems submitting my essays in on time. 😊

After my friend finished her degree, she went on to do a Masters degree. Her boyfriend then went to university and did his degree. They ended up getting married, having two more kids, and emigrated to America, where her boyfriend was from.

One day, I received a call from another university friend. She asked if I'd heard what had happened to our mutual university friend in America. I told her we had lost touch. (There was no social media then). She said our friend and her husband were killed in a car accident, which meant their three kids were left orphans.

At the time I was not only devastated, I was also confused. What's the point of all that hard work and ten year plan when it can all end in the blink of an eye?

I now understand the difference between God's dream for you and your dream for yourself i.e you believe you are the creator of your life experiences.

When God gives you a dream and a purpose, He not only fulfills it, He sustains it.

In the Bible God gave Joseph two dreams that he would be a leader some day. His jealous brothers tried to kill him, but were inspired to sell him as a slave. Although Joseph went through many challenges, he continued to believe that God was with Him and God made everything he did a success.  At the right time, Joseph was made the governor of Egypt and he was able to save his people and the rest of the world from a seven year farmine. (See Genesis 37-50)

Satan, called the "god of this world" (2 Corinthians 4: 4), likes to mimic God.  He will help make your egoic dreams come true. However, there's always a high price to pay and your dream will inevitably turn into a nightmare.

My university friend's dream came true, but it turned into a nightmare for their kids and loved ones.

My dream and life purpose is to glorify God in everything I do forever. ❤️
