After School Club
Years ago, I worked at this After School Club. The kids were aged between 3 and 5 years old. Part of my role was supervising the kids while they played outside.
One time I noticed this little boy, aged around four, hogging the football. The other boys complained to me that he wasn't sharing the ball. I told the boy the ball belonged to the school which meant they all had to share and play together.
The next day, I notced the same boy hogging the ball. I said to him, "Who does this ball belong to?"
"The school, Miss," he said.
"And?"
"It means we have to share the ball, Miss."
"Good boy!"
The boy then threw the ball to the other boys and they had fun playing football.
The very next day, I noticed the same boy hogging the ball. I had to repeat the same conversation I had with him the previous day and kept repeating myself until he finally got it.
When we become born again Christians by receiving Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour, our spirit is saved, but our mind isn't saved. In other words, we now know God in spirit, as our spirit is one with Him. However, our flesh side, which is ruled by our subconscious mind/heart, does not know God. To know Him, we have to start the process of constantly renewing our minds (Romans 12: 2) with what the Bible teaches and with the help of the Holy Spirit living inside of us. (John 14: 26)
The subconscious mind or heart is like a soil. Every time you meditate on Bible verses you are sowing seeds into your heart. How the seeds grow depend on the state of your soil/heart. If your soil is full of false beliefs, they will not allow the seeds to flourish. It might take days, weeks, months or even years for those false beliefs to be rooted out and replaced by Christ's teachings. Once the Word is rooted in your heart, they become a habit. (See Psalm 1: 1-3 and The Parable of the Sower - Matthew 13: 3-9; 18-23)
As your mind is renewed, you will be like the little boy in the After School Club who, after constant reminders, finally learned how to be naturally kind to his classmates.
Hallelujah, thank you, Jesus! 😀❤️
