Jesus is My Shepherd

When I was a kid, my mum insisted that we memorise a few Bible verses like Psalm 23. At the time, I used to recite it parrot fashion and had no idea of the actual meaning of the words.

It was only many years later when I started studying the Bible that I started paying attention to the meaning of the words. One time while I was experiencing a demonic attack and I felt this hand around my throat that was trying to strangle me, in desperation l remembered this verse:  "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil..." (Psalm  23: 4) I was instantly free, thank God. ❤️ That was before I was actually saved.

The other day, I was watching this  programme on a Christian channel about the parable of the lost sheep when the shepherd will leave his ninety nine sheep and go searching for that one lost sheep. (Luke 15: 4-6). The teacher reiterated that the lost sheep does not find itself, it is the shepherd that goes looking for it and brings it back into the fold and takes care of it.

It got me thinking again about Psalm 23 where the shepherd does everything for his sheep.  He makes sure his sheep are well cared for and protects them from predators.

Jesus is that Shepherd.

When we are "lost" and following false doctrines and false teachers, it is Jesus Himself who goes seeking those who are lost, brings them back and saves them. (John 6: 44)

Just like the shepherd is there to take care of his sheep, make sure all their needs are met and they are safe,  I believe Jesus, Himself, is everything those who have received Him as their Lord and Saviour need.

In other words, He Himself is our care, comforter, delverance, goodness, grace, guide, healing, health, joy, life, light, love, power, protection, provider, supply, truth, wisdom etc.

We see this in the Gospel of John where Jesus reveals Himself as the Great I Am:

I am the bread of life (John  6: 35); I am the light of the world (John 8: 12); I am the door (John 10: 9);  I am the good shepherd (John 10: 11); I am the resurrection and the life (John 11: 25); I am the way, the truth and the life (John 14: 6); I am the vine (John 15: 5).

As a former lost sheep who Jesus found, I now rest and receive from Jesus, who is my Shepherd. ❤️
