The Two Cats

When I came out of my bedroom, I was expecting to see Zeus (my flatmate's cat), but he wasn't around. I presumed he was outside in the garden. I noticed the stray cat that my flatmate and I have been feeding was sitting outside the door. Zeus was sitting near him.

I opened the door and let Zeus in. The stray cat seemed to understand that I wasn't going to let him in and he walked away.

When Zeus came in, I petted him and gave him some food. As soon as he finished eating, he went straight to my bedroom and hopped on my bed.

The two cats got me thinking of our different identities.

The Bible teaches us that God gave His only Son, Jesus, to die for all of humanity and whoever believes in Jesus has everlasting life. (John 3: 16)  In other words, God extended His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ to everyone who chooses to receive His gift.

The Bible also teaches us that those who receive Jesus's salvation and believe in His name become children of God (John 1: 12) and God is now their Abba Father. (Romans 8: 15) In other words, all born again (John 3: 3) Christians are now part of the Family and Body of Christ. Children of God get to enjoy all the benefits that God has given them in Christ. (Ephesians 1: 3)

I believe Zeus represents all children of God and the stray cat represents the rest of God's creation or those who are unsaved.

While my  flatmate and I extend grace to the other cat, Zeus will always have priority over the stray cat because he has a family he belongs to. (My flatmate is his mum and I am his aunty).  Because Zeus has a home, he is welcome to sleep on our beds as well as on his own bed; and sit anywhere he chooses. Zeus comes and goes as he pleases, but he always returns because he knows where he lives and receives unconditional love.

I pray that stray cat finds a suitable  home where he is loved unconditionally.

I am a daughter of God.

Thank you, Father God, for saving me through Your Son, Jesus Christ.  I now have a permanent home in and with You forever. ❤️

Relevant Bible verses:

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1: 12-13

"Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”" John 3: 3

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3: 16

"For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together." Romans 8:15-17

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:" Ephesians 1: 3
