When God Opens My Eyes

"And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”" John 9: 39

My bus arrived at 7.10am. When I got on, I looked for some empty seats on the lower deck. As there were no window seats available, I sat next to a passenger.

A few stops down, some passengers got on and sat in the vacant seats in front of the bus.

Hang on, how come I never saw those vacant seats?

I realised those vacant seats were Priority seats for the elderly, pregnant women and passengers who are unable to stand. Because it was very early in the morning, anyone could sit on those seats.

I have been so conditioned to avoiding those Priority seats, I couldn't see when they were actually vacant.

I wondered how many good things my conditioned mind was making me blind to.

It got me thinking of when Jesus started his ministry. He said, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1: 15)

The kingdom of God was/is always present, but people could not receive God's kingdom because of their world view or conditioning. Jesus was asking people to change their old way of thinking in order that they could believe and receive the good news of God's kingdom and all His benefits.

The moment one accepts Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and become a Christian, they start a process of renewing their minds with the Bible so they can know God and what His will is for their lives. (Romans 12: 2)

Back to my experience on the bus.

The next day when I got on the bus around the same time, this time my eyes were "wide open." I noticed the Priority seats were available and I sat on a Priority window seat all the way to my destination.

Thank you, God, for opening my eyes to your constant goodness and mercy. ❤️
