The British Way

A work colleague and I were sharing fun horror stories about looking for places to rent and flatsharing in London.  She's in her twenties and originally from Germany, but now lives in London. I told her about when I was looking for a flat to share with a friend. We went to look at this flat above a shop. The rooms were a good size. Although there was this gaping hole in the living room, we decided we could live with that. The kitchen was not only tiny, there was an actual bath in the kitchen. My friend and I joked that while she's cooking, I could be taking a bath. When the landlord returned, he asked us what we thought about the flat. My friend and I replied in unison, "We'll let you know." We then literally ran out of the flat and burst out laughing.  We couldn't believe the landlord seriously expected people to live in that flat? "Why didn't you tell him the truth?" my colleague asked me. "We had to be polite, it's the British way,...

Aunties and Uncles

While I was on the bus, this young man asked me if I had any spare change. He addressed me as "auntie"  I didn't know whether to feel honoured or offended. Auntie didn't have any change to give him. I heard him asking the same question to a man he called "uncle." You know you are getting old when the kids call you auntie or uncle. 😂

About Chivalry

The tube was so packed full I had to stand. A mother got on with her young son. A young woman sitting down offered her seat to the mother, but she declined.  I noticed a young man was sitting on the seat that is designated for the elderly, pregnant women or parents with kids and the disabled. I pointed out the sign to the young man and asked him to give up his seat for the mother with the child.  He asked her if she wanted to sit down and she said yes. Only then did he offer his seat. The woman thanked him, sat down and her son sat on her lap. Years ago, people didn't need to be asked to give up designated seats, they just did. Men gave up their seats for women, not because they didn't think women couldn't stand, they were being chilvalrous. Now a lot of younger men hardly ever offer their seats. They might argue that they don't want to offend women as we are meant to be equals. Well, I don't buy into that mentality. When a man offers me his seat on public transport...

Songs of Praise

Image
I've been watching "Songs of Praise" with Pam Rhodes interviewing the singer, Barbara Dickson on BBC1.    Over the years, they've had many different presenters on that TV orogramme, but the formula remains the same. My mum used to watch it  religiously every week.  I could go for months and even years and not watch it, but it's nice to know that the programme is always there when I'm ready to come back to it. It reminds me of God. We may forget God and do our own thing, but He's always there waiting for us to come home to Him. "Be Thou My Vision" was one of the hymns Barbara Dickson chose as one of her favourites.  I love it as well. Here is a video of the hymn from YouTube. ❤️ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_of_Praise

Local Church

Image
I attended this church today. I've actually been there before.  I can relate to their style of worship as they are Anglican. They are very welcoming. I love the vicar, she is passionate and full of fire. 🔥 I loved her sermon about how we can be the light of the world. I was very impressed that she remembered me. She was cool with my church hopping. She said it's a good thing to see how others worship so you don't get set in your ways. She also gave us cakes to take home. 😊 The only drawback was the church is freezing. Next time I attend, I will wear more layers and gloves.  This will be my local church when I'm not working on Sundays and it's only a 15 minutes walk from home. Otherwise, I will attend whichever church is closer to where I am working. ❤️

In the Noise, there is Stillness

"Be still, and know that I  am  God;" Psalm 46: 10 ---- At this corporate event I was working at, a speaker asked me if I knew of a quiet place he could go to make a phone call as he was being distracted by the noise. I suggested he could go outside. To be honest, I had so tuned out the voices, all I could hear was silence. Wherever there is "noise", the stillness of God is.❤️

Friends Reunited

"A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 16: 9 ---- I was booked to work at this corporate event where they were expecting 30,000+ visitors. There were 250+ agency staff at the event. I was looking forward to seeing old friends I've worked with. Here's how it all unfolded. The names I am using are not their real names. The first friend I thought of was "Mary." I wondered if I would see her. Training Day Before a big event, we are briefed about the show and some staff are given training. While we were all walking to the training room, someone called my name. It was a colleague I've worked with from another agency that specialises in museums, theatres and galleries. I told her I didn't know she was registered at this events agency. She reminded me that I had given her their contact details and this was her first job with them. We sat together.  There was a vacant chair in front of me. Even though the room was filli...

Trigger Point

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting."  Psalm 139: 23-24 ---- My flatmate and I had a disagreement and I said something which really upset her. It was actually the first time we've had such a confrontation since we've been living together and I was also feeling really hurt. When I went to my bedroom to cool down, I asked God to forgive me and to reveal why I was feeling this way. First of all He told me He loved me. He then showed me a past memory from a previous flatmate where I had  had a similar confrontation because I had been disrespected. I asked God to heal that memory and all grudges I was still holding in me. After a few minutes, I was feeling at peace. By then my flatmate had gone out. When she returned, I apologised to her for the things I had said. I explained my past experience to her which had been triggered, and assured her it had no...

God is Everywhere

During my long bus journey to work, I revisited a note  that I had written on my phone from August 2024 about God's omnipresence, which I edited. In the edited version, I wrote: ----- "I believe the same God who is in me is everywhere present. "Since God is in all, this means His attributes are everywhere present. ---- I had listed many attributes of God and relevant Bible verses in the footnote. Later in the evening, I got the bus home. After I got off, I walked towards the zebra crossing. A car approaching at full speed stopped for me to cross. Behind the steering wheel was this woman and she had the biggest grin ever. I grinned back at her, waved and crossed over. I reckon that was God's omnipresent love shining right through that driver. God is everywhere. ❤️  ---- Relevant Bible verses: "Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the Lord; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord." Jeremiah 23: 24 "For this reaso...

There is Only One

Image
I love how after I've been meditating on something, I attend a service, one of the Bible readings is exactly about what I was meditating on. That happened to me today when I attended this Choral Evensong service after work. I give thanks to the One in all. ❤️ ----- Related Bible verses; "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." My Beloved

Image
The Holy Spirit is the love of my life and best friend. His love for me fills the universe. We went for a lovely walk today.  At the end of the day, I fall asleep in His arms. ❤️ --- Relevant Bible verse:  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." John 14: 26

History is Repeating Itself

Image
"That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1: 9 ----- On this day, 9 years ago, I dyed my hair red (can't remember the exact shade). Today, I dyed my hair  copper. History is repeating itself. 😊

Chocolates and Biscuits or Fruits?

While I was walking home, I thought, God I'm putting on  weight. I don't even est that much. If it's because of all the chocolates and cookies I've been eating lately, could you take away that desire and show me what to eat instead? When I stopped off at the supermarket to get some strawberry yoghurt, I was inspired to get a bag of clementines. When my flatmate came home, she brought me a bunch of bananas. Hmm, I wonder if God wants me to eat fruits instead? The jury is still out on that one. 😂

Lunch Treat

Image
A friend took me out to lunch at this Turkish restaurant.  I had lamb Shish Kebab.  I  haven't had lamb in over 10 years. I'd forgotten what it tastes like.  It was nice, but it's no longer my cup of tea. I think I'll stick to chicken. 😊 Still, I am grateful to my friend for treating me to lunch. ❤️

When Zeus Took a Selfie

Image
My flatmate's cat is so clever, he took a selfie on my phone.  He's even smiling. No wonder he's called Zeus.😊 The truth of the matter is I erased all signs of my hand and made it appear like Zeus took the selfie.  For me, this photo represents the belief that man is self-made and that he doesn't need God. In order to keep that illusion going, you have to convince yourself that you are your own god, you have your own truth and you create your own reality.   Since God has given mankind freewill, He has no choice but to let us get on with our self-delusion until we are ready to know the Truth. A lot of unbelievers only cry out to God when they are in trouble. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and have since moved on. 😊 The Living God might appear to be invisible, but I believe He's very much real. I am nothing and can do nothing without Him. Thank you, Zeus, for humouring me with this selfie. 😊 Thank you, Jesus, for being my Lord and Saviour. ❤️ ---- Releva...

Followers of Jesus Still Alive

Note to self: The wonderful thing about the Bible is there are always new revelations. Here's one I discovered recently from Matthew 26: 28. --- "Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” Matthew 16: 28, NKJV "And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.” Matthew 16: 28, NLT "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” Matthew 16: 28, Amplified "I assure you that there are some here who will not die until they have seen the Son of Man come as King.” Matthew 16: 28, Good News “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” Matthew 16: 28, NIV --- Who are the "some" that Jesus was referring to? They we...

Jar Opener

Image
Today, I was inspired to cook some pasta. I say "inspired" because I rarely cook and when I do, I know the Holy Spirit is doing everything with me.  When it was time to use the pasta sauce, I couldn't open the jar. I said, Lord please open the jar or send someone who can. I tried again, but the lid wouldn't budge. I used a towel and still nothing. I guess the Spirit of the Lord is not going to come on me mightily like He did on Samson in the Bible. 😂 (See Judges Chapters. 12-16)  There's only one other option - ask a guy. In the area where I live, there are lots of Eastern European shops, cafes and restaurants. There's one particular cafe where I often see macho type guys sitting outside smoking cigarettes, whatever the weather. There's bound to be a guy threre who will be able to help this "damsel in distress." So I turned off the cooker, put on my coat, scarf, hat and boots and walked towards the cafe. Within a minute, I spotted two macho type...

The Best-Laid Plans

As the Robert Burns saying goes, "The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry." 😂 This morning, I planned to go to church. At first, I planned to catch a bus to one about a mile away. I then had a change of heart and decided  to walk to a church that's about 10 minutes away. As I have run out of food, on the way back I planned to stop off at the supermarket for some grocery. The moment I got out, it was so icy, I nearly slipped, as the flat heels on my boots were not suitable for those conditions. My plans immediately changed. Sorry, Lord, I'm going shopping. Besides, you and I are always together anyway. I crossed over the road to the supermarket, which was empty as it had just opened, and quickly got some grocery.  I was so grateful to have a warm home to come back to. After I put away the grocery and had a chat with my flatmate, I watched this Christian TV channel on my laptop. On one programme, the late Reinhard Bonnke (an evangelist), shared a testimony th...

God is Not the Cause of Destruction

Image
Last week when I attended this new church in my area, I noticed their service was not as orderly as I would prefer.  In fact, I heard two of the leaders mentioned the word "chaotic." The church had stated on their website that their services usually finish at 12pm, but after 12pm, the pastor was still preaching. He then said  they were going to sing some more songs before they finished. That was my cue to leave as I had arranged to see a friend and I didn't want to be late.  On my way, I thought again about the church service and the following Bible verse came to mind: "For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints." 1 Corinthians 14: 33 While I was with my friend, one of the things we discussed was a reality TV show we've both watched called "Million Dollar Listing LA." I told my friend  I only watch those shows out of curiosity to see how millionaires live. I said some of the houses are so huge, they mu...

Bananas

Image
A few days ago while I was grocery shopping, I wondered if I should get some bananas, but I decided not to as they don't last long. That's why I only buy a banana when I fancy one in that moment.  I got red grapes instead which last a lot longer. Yesterday, I didn't see my flatmate as I was already in bed by the time she got home. This morning when I went in the kitchen, I noticed my flatmate had left a note on the kitchen top for me to have these two bananas. I immediately gobbled one up. Thank you, God, for providing my bananas through my flatmate. ♥️ Photo of the note and bananas 😊

Visiting Another Church

This morning, I visited another local church near me. This one was non-denominational. The congregation was very  welcoming. As soon as you enter, they offer you tea and coffee with biscuits or cakes. As I don't drink tea or coffee, I only had a piece of cake. The congregation sang modern praise songs that went on and on. I was hoping to hear  some traditional hymns, but realised that wasn't going to happen in this church. The service is also a bit too long for my liking. For me, one hour is long enough except when it's a special service like Communion and Baptism, when the service is expected to go on a lot longer.  I might visit again if I am inspired to. 🙏

My Purpose

Years ago while I was constantly depressed and feeling suicidal, I gave myself a reason or purpose to stay in this body. I decided if I could love at least one person a day, I would delay suicide until I have loved everyone on earth. That meant I would have to be alive for billions of days. That was before I became a born-again Christian and gave my life to Christ. As a Christian, my purpose is to glorify God in my spirit and body. In other words, let God express in and through me and give Him the glory. Thank you, God, for giving me infinite opportunities to glorify You in my spirit and body. Amen. ❤️ ---- "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life...

God is My Decongestant

Yesterday, the media was full of warnings about  expected snow around the UK and how cold it's going to be this weekend. I ignored the doom and gloom warnings as I know where I truly live. (Acts 17: 28, John 17: 16) Later, I received a text message from a friend urging me to stay indoors and keep warm. In the middle of the night, I woke up with a blocked nose. I could see that while I've been asleep, the collective fear had crept in. The last time I used cold and flu remedies was in the late 1990s. When I had a blocked nose, I would take a decongestant pill which would unblock my nose for a few hours and I would have to keep taking more pills. Now I rely on God's Word as my medicine.(Proverbs 4: 22) I reminded myself that I live, move and have my being in Christ. God is working in me, through me and around me. I then relaxed. I could feel God working in my nasal passage until my nose became clear.  I then went back to sleep. My nose was still clear when I woke up this morni...

God is at Work

"...for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." Philippians 2: 13 ----- While I was working at the shop in this museum, I noticed this visitor was wearing this beautiful fuchsia coat.  After I complimented her, she told me where she had bought it from. While we were chatting, she told me she and her friend were taking their kids to see the film, "Wicked."  I told her I worked as an extra in that film and she said she was a costume designer in the same film. She has also worked as a costume designer in another film I've worked on. How amazing is that? Another visitor had this beautiful coat on and I was very curious to feel it. After I complimented her, she asked me a question about events in the museum which I answered. As if she was reading my thoughts, she invited me to feel her coat. It felt luscious. I reckon it was real fur. Later on, another visitor looking around the shop said hello. She said it must be nice working in th...

Already Done

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11: 1 ---- While I was at university, whenever I had an assignment, I would instantly know that it's already done.  I would then procrastinate until a day or two before the deadline and then panic. I wrote my 10,000 words dissertation in two days. I was so stressed I had the runs. I had to catch a minicab to the office campus to hand it in. I arrived five minutes before the deadline. Phew! Although I still use that same "already done" technique, now I ask God to help me get it done well in advance.  For instance, I knew my tax return was already done, but I wasn't inspired to do it.  Besides, the deadline is the 31st January. What's the hurry? I was inspired to get my "already done" tax return filed today. It is done! Hallelujah! ❤️ My next tax return is already done. I will now go back to sleep  until God inspires me to get it done for real. 😂

Lean on Me

"Lean on me When you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on... For it won't be long Till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on Please swallow your pride If I have things you need to borrow For no one can fill Those of your needs that you won't let show You just call on me brother when you need a hand We all need somebody to lean on" https://youtu.be/fOZ-MySzAac?feature=shared "Lean on Me" - Bill Withers God bless. ❤️

Smart Thinking

Image
When I arrived at the tube station, there were several people waiting outside the ticket barrier. I noticed the time was 9.22am.  Aha, they're waiting till 9.30am, when it becomes off peak and it's a lot cheaper to travel. I also hung out with them until 9.30am.  Smart thinking! 😂 When I arrived at the platform, there was already a train waiting, but it was packed full and it remained on the platform for several minutes while commuters piled on. I decided to wait for the next train. The next one arrived in two minutes and it was empty. I had a nice comfortable seat all the way into central London. Thank you, God, for your constant provision. ❤️ Photo courtesy of Google Images

This is God’s Day

Image
This is God’s day. It might be a bitterly cold (by London standards), I will still rejoice and be glad in it. Have a blessed day, everyone! ❤️ ""This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118: 24

Magnifying Glass

Image
Sometimes when duty managers give out daily rotas, the fonts are so tiny I have to use the magnifying glass app on my phone to read them. The other day, while I was working at this museum, I noticed this magnifying glass in their shop. It's supposed to be for kids but hey, it works so I bought it. Besides, I am a child of God.😂 I like that's it's small enough to carry in my pocket. I'm sure I'll need it at the museum I am working at today.  Thank you, God! ❤️

An Easy Day

Image
Before I went to work at this museum, I thanked God for an easy, fun and wonderful day. Half of my time was spent working in the gallery, where I was invigilating, and in the shop serving customers.  Although it was really busy with a constant flow of visitors and kids, I found it easy as God was working in me and through me My work colleagues were also very nice and helpful and I enjoyed working with them. I also enjoyed chatting to the parents and their kids. While I was tidying up an area of the gallery, I found this soft toy and I gave it to a colleague to look after. Later, I saw this boy sitting in the cafe with his mum and sister. I noticed he was carrying the toy I had found in the gallery. I told him I was glad he got his toy back. I asked him how old they were, he was six years old  and his sister was ten. The boy said his birthday was on the 27th December. I told him my nephew's birthday was also on that day. How amazing is that? At the end of the shift, our duty ma...

A Joy-full New Year

Welcome to another new year!! On this day, billions of people across the world are wishing each other a Happy New Year. Happiness depends on our circumstances. By this I mean, people tend to be only happy when things are going well. Real Joy is not affected by our circumstances.  May you all experience real Joy that comes from God at all times. ❤️ ----- Relevant Bible verses: "You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Psalm 16: 11 Video from a Watch Night Service I attended two years which is still relevant.😂
