The Peace of God
"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27
----
While my flatmate and I were chatting in the kitchen, our feline companion, Zeus, was chomping away at his dry food. Suddenly, he looked up at us and we immediately knew what Zeus was thinking.
Zeus is a very placid cat and doesn't like loud noise. The moment he hears noise, he runs away to find somewhere a lot more quiet and peaceful. When Zeus is around us and we're chatting loudly, he either gives us the "look" or he walks away to find somewhere quiet to relax like in our bedrooms or on his bed.
After my flatmate and I apologised to Zeus, we lowered our voices and he returned to his food. After he finished eating, he went outside for some peace abd quiet.
Zeus' attitude to noise reminds me of the two kinds of peace: worldly peace and God's peace.
With worldly peace, you have to either go looking for that peace or try to change your environment to have peace.
With God's peace, His peace is in and arround you. In other words, you have constant access to God's peace no matter what is going on around you.
When I first moved in with my flatmate, she warned me that our neighbour closer to my bedroom plays her television really loud because she's losing her hearing. At first, I used ear plugs before I went to bed. I have long stopped wearing ear plugs as I am no longer disturbed by my neighbour. I am also no longer bothered by the constant traffic noise outside. How can I be disturbed when I have Jesus's peace constantly in and around me?
I have the peace of Christ. ❤️
Here's an edited photo I took of Zeus this morning.
