Shopping at the Supermarket

As I had run out of essentials like toilet rolls, cleaning products and laundry tablets, I decided to pop into our local supermarket, which happens to be right opposite where I live.

After I got everything on my shopping list, I went to the checkout. I noticed there were a few tills being served by humans. I haven't used those in a long time. The one I picked only had two customers ahead of me which means I'll be out in a jiffy. I quickly realised that wasn't going to happen.

The checkout assistant was having a chat in Turkish with the first elderly customer.  She also helped the customer to count her cash. The next customers were an elderly couple. The woman told the checkout assistant that they were her colleague's parents and they had a chat.  They were also paying by cash.

I could feel myself getting worked up. I heard the Holy Spirit in me whispering, "Calm down!"

I know, I know!  If I wanted express service, I should have used  self-checkout, right?

When it was my turn, the assistant turned round to have a quick chat with her colleague. Come on, lady, I haven't got all day!

After she finally processed my items, I gave her my loyalty card.

"You have a £5 discount on your card. Do you want to use it?"

"Yes, please," I said.

"It's so sunny outside today," she smiled sweetly. "Have a lovely day."

"Thank you. You too."

I realised what a blessing that shop assistant was. She had been so kind and considerate to the elderly customers. I had also noticed the customer after me was an elderly woman. Some people who live alone are probably grateful to have someone like that assistant to chat to.

Because I don't enjoy shopping, I like to get it done quickly. I had forgotten what it's like to slow down and have a chitchat with staff.

Thank you, God, for givng me the opportunity to be blessed and be a blessing. ❤️
